He worked previously as a labourer and then as a caretaker of the Town Hall in Jedburgh. He has taught in St Agatha's School at Crossroads.

His main hobby is Boxing and he has done a great deal of good for the boys at Braehead whom he taught to box at the club in the school. He also likes a quiet bet on the horses and enjoys watching all sports on TV.

He thinks the "Braehead News" says quite a bit for the pupils and the Editor. His dislikes are cheeky children and people who put their artistic designs on walls instead of on paper. He feels that the change he would like to see is that the school would introduce a bit more discipline.

We told him to imagine he was stranded in the Highlands and that he could have 3 records of his choice along with 1 book and 1 luxury.

Any record by Kenneth McKellar, as he was a wonderful singer.

"Scotland The Brave" sung by Andy Stewart because he is a great Scottish character and it's a fine song and Paddy McGinty's Goat was his third choice as the comedy appeals to him.

Previously he worked as a cabinet-maker in the shipyards of Glasgow. He also taught for a while in Glasgow after he finished his Training to become a teacher at Jordanhill College of Education. He chose woodwork for a career, as he was always reasonably good at it.

If he was stranded in the Highlands with a record player and allowed three records, he would choose:

"Summertime in Venice" because it does something for him.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" by Frank Sinatra as it is a lovely piece of music.

"Lo-gon Lonesome Blues" by Hank Williams as he likes Country & Western music.

The Book he asked for would be a copy of "Andy Capp" to brighten up his dull moments.
